The Jesus child in manger lay,
Though heav’n his rightful station.
His pillow here was straw and hay
In darkness and privation.
But bright the star o’er lowly seat
As oxen kissed the Christ-child’s feet.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! The Jesus Child.

Be glad, all souls who were forlorn:
Shake off your heavy sorrow;
A child in David’s city born
Shall comfort you tomorrow.
The Christ-child calls us all to be
In soul and mind, a child as he.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! The Jesus Child.
